The Lawrence F. Black Bridge
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
This footbridge over Emigration Creek was a soldier's exercise. In 1973 the Utah National Guard built it across the creek at the south edge of the Westminster campus as a training project — a real structure raised for practice, then left standing for the college to use. It later carried the name of Lawrence F. Black. When Nunemaker Place was dedicated in 1977, people lined this span for the ceremony. A small thing, easily crossed without a glance, it has quietly outlasted the purpose that built it.
