Bill & Vieve Gore
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1988
It started as a courtship on this campus. Bill Gore, a University of Utah chemistry student, kept coming around Westminster to see Vieve Walton; they married, and Bill went to work at DuPont. There he became convinced Teflon-coated wire had a future. When DuPont wasn't interested, the Gores struck out on their own and built W.L. Gore & Associates—the company behind GORE-TEX. They never forgot where they met. Their gifts gave Westminster its business school, named for them both in 1988, and their family has helped steer the college ever since.
