Aunt Em
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
The bench-statue outside the School of Education honors Emma Eccles Jones, whom Westminster students came to call 'Aunt Em.' A daughter of the banker David Eccles and a philanthropist in her own right, she gave generously to art and education across Utah — the Emma Eccles Jones name sits on schools, halls, and endowments throughout the state. The college placed her here, cast in bronze on a bench near the discipline she cared most about, so students pass her every day. Few know the woman; most assume, correctly, that she was a benefactor.
