Utah's Medal of Honor Recipients Memorial
Bluffdale, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected, 2002
The Medal of Honor is the rarest thing a soldier can earn, and it is almost never earned lightly — most often it recognizes someone who traded their own safety, or their life, for others'. This memorial gathers the Utahns who have received it, across the nation's wars. Among them is George Wahlen, an Ogden farm boy and Navy corpsman who kept treating wounded Marines on Iwo Jima after being hit again and again. The memorial sits in the state's veterans park at Bluffdale, a quiet roll call of ordinary people who did the extraordinary.
