United States Army Special Forces Monument
Bluffdale, Salt Lake County · Utah
The green beret is a small thing to earn the hard way. American Special Forces soldiers — the men who wear it — are trained less to fight wars themselves than to teach others to: dropped in small teams behind the lines to raise, arm, and lead local resistance. Their motto is Latin for "to free the oppressed," and their work is often quiet, unattributed, and years long. President Kennedy made the beret their official mark in 1961; after he was killed, Green Berets laid one on his grave. This Bluffdale monument honors the ones Utah has sent.
