Canine and Service Animals War Heros Memorial
Bluffdale, Salt Lake County · Utah
Armies have always run on animals, and a few of them earned monuments. This memorial honors the dogs, horses, mules, and even pigeons that served in America's wars — scouting ahead of patrols, hauling what men couldn't, carrying messages through fire, sniffing out mines and wounded. The dogs of Vietnam alone are thought to have saved thousands of lives, yet most were classified as surplus equipment when the war ended and never came home. This Bluffdale monument is a belated thank-you to the creatures that had no say in the fighting and served anyway.
