Historical Marker · No. 4660
Blue Star Memorial Highway - Sugarhouse Park
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected, 1982
The blue star on this marker comes from the small flags families hung in their windows during the World Wars—one blue star for each member away in uniform, a gold one if they didn't come home. After World War II, the country's garden clubs began planting trees and setting markers like this along highways and in parks as living memorials to everyone who serves in the armed forces. This one stands in Sugarhouse Park, placed in 1982—a quiet nod to service in a place people come to picnic and play.
