Pioneer Telegraph Station

For a century this was pointed out as the Pony Express terminal. It was not. The State Telegraph Company kept its office here from 1863, and Western Union from 1868 until 1915, and the telegraph is the thing that ended the Pony Express rather than the thing that shared a building with it. The riders finished in October 1861, the week the transcontinental line was completed, out of the Wells Fargo office directly across the street. Nothing marks the site, and the wrong name has outlasted the correction.
