Pioneer Graves Reburied
Tooele City, Tooele County · Utah
Erected, 2012
Not every pioneer grave here stayed where it was dug. Some of Tooele's earliest burials lay in the path of the growing town, and construction along the highway disturbed them more than once; the remains were moved back from the road and reburied within this protected ground. The Sons of Utah Pioneers marked the reinterments so the disturbance would end with them — an unglamorous kind of care, digging up the dead a last time in order to never do it again. They rest inside the memorial garden now, boundaries known, ground protected.
