Original Sacramento Bee Building

Sacramento, Sacramento County · California

Something of this one is still here. The Bee began in a two-storey brick building on Third Street in February 1857, and when Interstate 5 was cut through Old Sacramento the building went with the rest of the block. One fragment was left standing, a wooden door in a red brick surround, under the northbound off-ramp and opening onto nothing. It is all that survives of the paper's first home. There is no plaque beside it to say what it is or was.
