Medal of Honor Recipients Monument
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
This granite marker honors the Utahns awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration—a list shorter than you'd expect, because the medal is given sparingly and often posthumously. When it was dedicated in the 1980s, the two recipients still living in the state came to stand beside it. A tree was planted with it, too—part of the grove's habit of setting something living beside something carved. The marker keeps the names where a walker in the park will come upon them, which is the whole idea.
