Long Wharf

The register says the wharf went out from this corner in the spring of 1848. Accounts drawn from the wharf company's own history put it a year later: chartered in May 1849 as the Central Wharf company, with William Heath Davis its treasurer, on a strip thirty-five feet wide bought from Mellus and Howard, whose warehouse stood at its head. By 1850 it ran past Davis Street and was the busiest place in town. The fill overtook it within a few years, and the wharf became Commercial Street. Nothing marks the corner.
