Kullyspel House
Bonner County · Idaho
For more than a century nobody could say where the post had stood. In 1923 a Kalispel man known as Old Alec led the way to its ruins on the Hope Peninsula, across from Memaloose Island, and a monument followed. Thompson's journal records choosing the site on September 10, 1809, with two Native guides, and finishing the storehouse by the 23rd, its roof of small logs plastered with grass and mud because the soil lacked the blue clay he wanted; melting snow found its way through. Finan McDonald was left in charge. The probable site is private land today.
