Dr. Don Lind
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1935
Don Lind waited longer than almost any astronaut for his ride to space. A Utah native — born in Midvale, schooled at the University of Utah — he was selected by NASA in 1966 but didn't fly until 1985, nineteen years later, finally reaching orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger on the Spacelab 3 mission. This bust honors him. He's a reminder that Utah's contributions to the country run past pioneers and politicians into the space age — and that patience, in his case, was its own kind of right stuff.
