Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA
For well over a century, this has been a home of Black Utah. Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in the 1880s under the Reverend T. Saunders, and it stood at the center of Black religious, social, and cultural life in a state where Black residents were few. The congregation bought this ground in 1907 and, through their own sacrifice and labor under the Reverend T. C. Bell, built the church that stands here. Restored in the 1970s, Trinity endures — a gathering place, and a landmark of a community that made its own room.
