The Old School House
Taylorsville, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected, 1986
For a generation this corner schooled Taylorsville's children. A red-brick building went up at 6200 South and Redwood Road in the 1890s as the 64th District School; it was renamed so many times in a few years that locals lost track, settling at last on Madison School. In 1921 the schoolyard passed to the Bennion Ward, and the building came down. Church halls followed, until 2010, when the highway department bought the corner and cleared it for a road. A single stone now stands where generations once lined up for class.
