The Kelly Ranch

Springville, Utah County · Utah
Erected by DUP, 1941

For seventy-nine years and three generations, one family kept this canyon corner. Joseph and Elizabeth Kelly came to Springville in 1852 and homesteaded a hundred and sixty acres up Hobble Creek Canyon, on a bench the Ute had long used as a camping ground. Here they raised their family, farmed, and grew known across the valley for taking in travelers — 'they lived in the house by the side of the road and were friends to man.' Joseph died on the place in 1885, Elizabeth in 1904, and the ranch stayed in Kelly hands into the next century.
