The Founders’ Rescue Wagon
Cedar City, Iron County · Utah
Erected, 1986
Building Old Main took the whole town, not only the men on the mountain. While the loggers cut and hauled, Cedar City's women baked, made butter and cheese, and darned wool clothing to keep the crews fed and warm; others gathered hay and grain and lent horses, wagons, and gear. This monument stands a wagon on the spot in memory of that winter of 1898, when a legislative deadline meant the building had to rise by fall or the school would go elsewhere.
