Rock of the Marne 38th Infantry Regiment
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
On July 15, 1918, as Germany launched its last great offensive of the First World War, the men of the 38th Infantry Regiment held the bank of the Marne River in France and would not be moved — fighting on three sides at once as units around them fell back. Their stand helped break the offensive and turn the war, and won them a name they carry still: the Rock of the Marne. This monument, dedicated in 1965, honors that regiment and the soldiers who anchored the line that day.
