Women's Service Memorial
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Most war memorials, by long habit, picture men. This one corrects the record, honoring the women of Utah who served the nation in wartime — as nurses, in the women's military branches, and in the countless support roles without which no war effort functions. Their service was real and often dangerous, and for generations it went underacknowledged in bronze and stone. This memorial is part of a broader, overdue reckoning: the recognition that women have always been present in America's wars, and have always paid their share of the price.
