Oregon Trail
Converse County · Wyoming
Erected by State of Wyoming, 1913
The stone went up beside a grave the road had just moved. In 1912 engineers surveying a better road from Glenrock to Casper found three-year-old Ada Magill's 1864 grave on its centerline. The surveyor L. C. Bishop, later state engineer, moved it thirty feet north with a shovel crew of convicts from the county jail, who found a few small bones, pearl buttons and cut nails. Bishop carved a new headstone with the old inscription and buried the original in the new grave. The trail itself runs about fifty feet south.
