Pioneer Monument
Casper, Natrona County · Wyoming
Erected by Natrona County Pioneer Association, 1911
The obelisk carries two rounds of marking. The Natrona County Pioneer Association raised it in 1911 on the site of the trail through the young town, two years before the state commission began its own markers, and the state added the bronze in 1914. The bronze's directions run short: the post it names, reconstructed in the 1930s and now Fort Caspar's museum, lies about two and a half miles west-southwest, not one. It also gives the abandonment as October 19, 1867, where the register's copy of its text reads 1897.
