Old Delta Sediments
Franklin County · Idaho
The panel here was down when it was last photographed, in June 2017: its posts snapped and the sign flat in the grass with its face hidden, so no one has recorded its words. The terraces and gullies around this pullout are Bear River's old delta, laid down where the river met Lake Bonneville. The register's 80-foot drop understates the flood that lowered the lake: the outflow at Red Rock Pass took it down about 350 feet, and as the water kept falling the river cut back through its own delta, leaving the steep sides along the road.
