Nelly Jack Park
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA
This west-side pocket park carries the name of one of Utah's longest-serving legislators. Nellie Haynes Jack represented Salt Lake City's west side for eleven terms in the state House, a term in the Senate, and four years as county recorder, from 1939 into the 1970s. A Democrat and a New Deal voice, she pushed for old-age assistance, workers hurt by occupational disease, and the Jordan River's beautification, and was known for quiet calls on behalf of the struggling. 'What counts most in life,' went a favorite maxim, 'is what we do for others.'
