Horticulture Building
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1995
When the state bought this west-side acreage in 1902 and called it Agriculture Park, the Horticulture Building went up first — the gateway structure that greeted everyone arriving for the fair. Salt Lake architects Walter Ware and Alberto Treganza gave it a low, hipped-roof Beaux Arts elegance, the same hand behind the city's First Presbyterian Church and the University Club. It has outlasted most of its neighbors: renamed Promontory Hall in 1977, it still fills each September with prize produce and, the rest of the year, with trade shows and concerts.
