Library founded by Economic Club
Tremonton, Box Elder County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1930
Tremonton's library began with a club of women. In June 1914 the town's women — German immigrants of other faiths and Latter-day Saints together — met at the meetinghouse and formed the Economic Club, which they built into a reading room and then a library. They stocked it through book showers and bake sales, and in 1917 asked the town board for ten dollars a month to pay the first librarian. By the end of the 1920s the collection had a building of its own, the work of women who volunteered every step.
