Box Elder County Veterans Memorial
Tremonton, Box Elder County · Utah
Erected, 2001
Four bronze portraits anchor Midland Square: the Borgstrom brothers of nearby Thatcher, killed in six months of 1944. Clyde died on Guadalcanal in March, LeRoy in Italy in June, twin Rolon of bombing-mission wounds in England in August, twin Rulon in France seventeen days later. Utah's congressional delegation intervened and the Marines discharged the fifth brother, Boyd — the family's loss helped drive the sole-survivor policy of 1948. A.C. Christensen, a World War II veteran, led the 2001 effort; the monument carries some 3,000 Bear River Valley names.
