Lehi City Hutchings Museum Veterans Memorial Foyer
Lehi, Utah County · Utah
This plaque in the museum's foyer marks the beginnings of Lehi itself. Settlers reached this ground near the Jordan River, at the north end of Utah Lake, in 1850; the next year they organized as a Latter-day Saint ward under David Evans, their first bishop; and on February 5, 1852, Lehi was incorporated as a city, with Silas P. Barnes as its first mayor — one of the earliest chartered cities in the territory. The town took its name from a prophet in the Book of Mormon.
