Joseph F. Steenblik Park
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA
The Steenbliks came from the Netherlands and settled this stretch of Salt Lake's west side in 1908, running a small dairy off Leadville Avenue that supplied milk to the neighborhood into the 1970s. Joseph F. Steenblik poured himself into the young — scouting, fund drives, the Rose Park library and gymnasium — while the family's construction firm helped raise the stake house that anchored the postwar subdivision. The pocket park at 1050 West carries his name. Four bronze cats now keep watch over the playground, a wink at the dairy that once stood nearby.
