Harrisburg Historic Pioneer Cemetery
Harrisburg, Washington County · Utah
Erected, 2011
Read the dates on this cemetery and the frontier's cruelty to children stares back. Harrisburg, now a ghost town in the Dixie desert, buried many of its youngest here, and the marker honors them by name. Some lived only hours: an Earl infant, a Fuller baby, a Jolley boy each born and gone within a day. A mother and her week-old son, Mary Ann Jolley and John, died the same February day in 1868. Willard Cox lasted not quite six months in 1887. The adults' graves are here too, but it is the children's dates that stop you.
