First Ward Meeting House
Brigham City, Box Elder County · Utah
While the great tabernacle drew the eye, this plain stone chapel outlasted it in one respect: it is the oldest church still standing in Brigham City. The First Ward built it of local stone between 1884 and 1886 as an ordinary neighborhood meetinghouse, nothing grand — a rectangular hall for Sunday worship. Later the ward added a wooden recreation hall onto the back, set at a right angle so the two together made a T. Grander buildings in town have come and gone; this modest one, raised for a single ward's everyday use, is the one that remains.
