E. B. Crocker Art Gallery

Edwin Crocker was the Central Pacific's lawyer, which is where the money came from. He and Margaret Crocker bought heavily in Europe at the end of the 1860s and put up a gallery beside the house to hold what they shipped home. He died in 1875. Margaret gave the building and everything in it to the city ten years after that, which makes this the oldest public art museum in the West. California registered the landmark and never plaqued it. The bronze here is the federal one.
