No state plaque marks the site, and the building the register describes is gone. It was registered in January 1975, after Neiman Marcus had bought the store and announced it would tear it down; a National Register listing, a petition of tens of thousands of signatures and legal challenges followed. The building came down in 1981 anyway. What survived is the rotunda and its 1909 glass dome, sent east for restoration and set into Philip Johnson's new store. The only text on the site is the store's own printed panel inside.
