Camilo Ynitia Adobe

No plaque stands here, and the register has dropped its old title, Oldest House North of San Francisco Bay, with the 1776 story that went with it. Olompali was a Coast Miwok village for more than a thousand years. Camilo Ynitia, its last hoipu, or headman, built his adobe here in 1837, and in 1843 received two leagues of his own people's land as a Mexican grant; after 1848 it became the only deed to a California Indian confirmed under American rule. He sold most of it in 1852 and died on the corner he kept.
