Boone's Landing
Clackamas County · Oregon
The ferry crossed here, at what became Wilsonville, from 1847 until 1954. The panel names who did the rowing at the start: the Boones hired local Tuality Indians, Tualatin Kalapuya people, as oarsmen, and Alphonso Boone is said to have insisted on service around the clock. A cable later replaced the oars, the State of Oregon took the ferry over in the early 1900s, and by the 1950s it carried twelve cars a crossing. The Boone Bridge on Interstate 5 opened in 1954, and the ferry was retired shortly after.
