1997 Sesquicentennial Trekkers
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected, 2007
Half a century after the Centennial Trekkers, the Sons of Utah Pioneers did it again. In July 1997, 168 people stood in for the first pioneer company and drove the sesquicentennial trail — Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley, the exodus of 1846 and the crossing of 1847 folded into a single motor journey. Church President Gordon B. Hinckley met them at the Canyon Rim Stake Center on July 22 and told them they had accomplished something remarkable. Beside this plaque, a companion tablet lists every trekker by name.
