World War II Memorial Rose Garden
Nephi, Juab County · Utah
Nephi chose roses. Rather than a bronze soldier or a granite slab, this Juab County seat planted a memorial rose garden for its World War II veterans — a living tribute that has to be tended, pruned, and brought back into bloom every year by people who choose to keep it. There's a gentleness to that form of remembrance, especially for a war as vast and terrible as the second one. The garden asks something ongoing of the town: not just to have remembered once, but to keep the memory growing.
