Union Pacific Depot - Built 1907
Brigham City, Box Elder County · Utah
A depot's busiest years can be its saddest. Built in 1907, the Union Pacific station moved Brigham City's ordinary traffic for decades — passengers, mail, coal, and the valley's fruit and produce heading to market. Then came the Second World War, and a grimmer cargo. The Army built the huge Bushnell General Hospital in town to treat wounded servicemen, and a special track was laid from this depot straight to its doors, so that trainloads of the injured could be carried in and the maimed carried home. The trains are gone; the little depot still stands.
