Trinidad Head

No state plaque stands on the summit. What marks it is the granite cross the club women of Humboldt County raised in 1913 to replace Hezeta's wooden one, and they carved the claim itself in Latin: Charles III, by the grace of God king of the Spains. The headland is Chuerewa' in Yurok, Tsurewa to the Tsurai descendants. The date they cut, June 9, is when the ships anchored; the act of possession came two days later, on Trinity Sunday, which gave the bay its name. Since 2017 the headland has been part of the California Coastal National Monument.
