Company H fought as part of the Texas Brigade. The Encyclopedia of Arkansas says the 3rd Arkansas joined three Texas regiments in that brigade on November 26, 1862, and stayed with it for the rest of the war. At Devil's Den at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, the regiment lost 26 killed and 116 wounded. In the Wilderness, in May 1864, casualties reached nearly 65 percent; Col. Van Manning was severely wounded and captured, and fewer than 120 men were present for duty afterward. The regiment's battle flag is kept in the Old State House Museum in Little Rock.
