St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by USHS
When the Episcopalians raised St. Mark's in the 1870s, it was a quiet act of nerve — a non-Mormon cathedral in the heart of Brigham Young's Zion. Begun in 1870 and finished in stages over the next thirty years, it was designed by Richard Upjohn, the great Gothic Revival architect who founded the American Institute of Architects. Its rough sandstone and pointed arches brought a piece of the eastern church West. St. Mark's holds the distinction of being the oldest non-Mormon church in Utah still in continuous use.
