Site of Adobe Home of José Dolores Sepulveda
Torrance, Los Angeles County · California
José Dolores Sepúlveda finished an adobe here in 1818 while running stock on a corner of Rancho San Pedro he did not yet hold title to. In February 1824 he rode north to Monterey to settle the claim. Coming home on the twenty-first he stopped at Mission La Purísima Concepción, the day Chumash people there rose against the floggings and forced labor of the mission system, and he was killed in the fighting. His sons were granted Rancho de los Palos Verdes ten years later.
