Saramarie J. Van Dyke Carriage House
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County · Utah
Erected by NA
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers keep their relics in two buildings; this is the second. Saramarie Jensen Van Dyke, a lifelong member, willed her entire estate to the organization, and that bequest — pooled with the savings of the Central Company and small gifts from members across the state — paid for this carriage house beside the Pioneer Memorial Museum. Ground was broken in 1972 and the addition dedicated in 1973. Inside stand the wheeled things of pioneer Utah: Brigham Young's army wagon, a mule-drawn streetcar, an early fire engine, buggies and sleighs.
