Red Bluff Community Church and School
Washita County · Oklahoma
Erected by Oklahoma Historical Society, 1981
Washita County was opened to non-Indian settlement in the Cheyenne-Arapaho Opening of April 19, 1892, when most of it was laid out as County H. Red Bluff's church began in 1900, the year the Baptist bodies within each of Oklahoma's two territories united, and in 1906 delegates of both territorial conventions met at Shawnee to organize the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. The farm country around the crossroads changed shape over the next decades: the county had 4,506 farms averaging about 135 acres in 1934, and 2,046 averaging 312 acres in 1961.
