Primary Organized & Farmington Meeting House
Farmington, Davis County · Utah
Erected by NA
This Farmington rock chapel — built in 1862–63 by the labor of every man in town and dedicated by Wilford Woodruff — holds a first in it. On August 11, 1878, a Farmington woman named Aurelia Spencer Rogers organized here the Latter-day Saint Primary Association, a program to teach and look after the community's children; 224 of them came to the first meeting two weeks later. The Primary grew into a worldwide organization for children in the church, and it began in this stone building, with one woman's idea for the young.
