Pioneer Cabin
Wellington, Carbon County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1968
Utah's coal country was settled on purpose, and late. In 1877 Brigham Young sent Jefferson Tidwell to find a place to settle east of the Wasatch, and by 1879 the first families were breaking ground and turning Price River water onto their fields. Robert Snyder built this log cabin in 1882 — a fireplace, a dirt roof and dirt floor, canvas hung for windows and doors — and like so many first buildings it did every job at once, as home, school, church, and dance hall. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers took it for a relic hall in 1928.

Canvas served for windows and doors. It was used for home, school, church and recreation. Purchased in 1928 by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for a relic hall.
