Historical Marker · No. 925
Peralta Hacienda Site
Oakland, Alameda County · California
No state plaque stands here. Antonio María Peralta was given 16,067 acres of the family rancho in 1842; when he died in 1879 he had 23 left, the rest sold or lost as Oakland spread across his share. In 1897 his daughter sold the remnant to a developer, Henry Z. Jones, who cleared the 1821 adobe, laid out streets and moved the 1870 house to this spot. The walkway plaque's City Landmark No. 1975 is a year, not a number: Oakland designated the house its Landmark 10 in 1975.
