The Oregon Trail
Goshen County · Wyoming
Erected by Historical Landmark Commission of Wyoming, 1943
The state line here was drawn on paper, the twenty-seventh meridian west of Washington written into Wyoming's 1868 organic act, and the stone stands where the highway crosses it rather than where the wagons did; the main road ran three miles south, along the North Platte. Its 1841 is the year the first emigrant wagon company followed the fur traders' road west, though traders' wagons had crossed this line from 1830. Nebraska marked its side in 1912 with a stone giving the bearing and distance to a boundary survey monument.
