Oregon Trail
Goshen County · Wyoming
Erected by State of Wyoming, 1914
A sign a few yards from this shaft names the place Cold Springs, a camping ground on the river road that the sign dates as a stage station from 1854 to 1862 and a Pony Express relay in 1860 and 1861, its keeper given only as M. Reynal. A man of that surname, Antoine Reynall, had signed as a witness to the trader James Bordeaux's account of the Grattan fight in 1854. The shaft is one of the state's 1914 granite markers, set beside what is now US-85 south of Torrington.
