Old California-Oregon Road

The tablet says the pioneers blazed this road in the fifties. Mostly they followed it. The way north through the Sacramento Valley to Oregon was a web of Native footpaths long before Hudson's Bay Company trappers used it in the 1820s and 1830s as the Siskiyou Trail; the gold-rush wagon road widened that line, the Pacific Highway paved it, and Interstate 5 runs along it now. McCloud Parlor of the Native Sons set this tablet in 1931, under the Shasta Historical Society's emblem of Mount Shasta.
